Teaching Moments

Happy New Year.

Maybe this year I will post more frequently. Who knows. I'll try. So we will label this day 1 and go on from here.

I had a big teaching moment this morning.  I was talking with a co-worker about some benign subject and I actually forced the conversation into one about the current state of our country. With a bit of help, I realized how negative I was being. I'm part of the problem too. Regardless of my view of the country, it isn't my place to add to the divisiveness of our society. Social Networks propagate "fake news". Gone are the days of stating the facts and letting people make their own decisions.

So, I'm going to try and stop adding to the mayhem.

Some observations:

People need to work together. We need to support those less fortunate than ourselves. Those in need. Not those who abuse our system. And there is a difference. We need to treat people with respect and remember that we are all going through our own battles and we need to be sensitive to that.

Bullying needs to stop. This will be hard considering the climate we live in. But we need to do this on a grass roots level.

So, go out and be nice to each other. Say Hello to a stranger. Acknowledge the homeless.

Have a great day.
